"Think About It
"
SCENARIO 5
Age: U11
Gender: Female
Level: Regional Final
Situation:
From the start both teams have been complaining about the
referee. After several "hard fouls" the teams and
fans begin to "turn on each other". By the 20TH
minutes the "sides" begin to unite in their concerns
about what is taking place on the field. By the 30TH minute
each team has taken off two players due to injury (no calls
in any case). By the 31ST minute the opposing coaches are
actually side-by-side expressing now shared concerns to the
center. Despite all efforts, the center refuses to acknowledge
the joint concerns. The half comes to an end.
Special Circumstances:
1. The referee is running the center for the first time
2. The referee showed up late and gave the team that won the
tap ball and choice of goal
Food For Thought:
1. What are the coaches' options?
2. What is the number one priority?
3. Could "revenge" be playing a part in this situation?
What Would You Do:
As a parent
As a coach
As a player
As a referee
