It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Austin Wylie.
Austin was a rising star in the soccer and academic communities. He competed for Lower Merion Soccer Club as well as FC Europa and represented Eastern Pennsylvania in our Olympic Development Program.
At the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Austin earned numerous accolades. As a junior in 2015, he was named the Friends Schools League Most Valuable Player and was featured on both the All-Southeastern Pennsylvania team and the Pennsylvania All-State team.
Austin was described as a smart, wonderful young man by those who coached and played alongside him.
“Austin was one of the most delightful and energetic kids I ever met,” said Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Technical Director Mike Barr, who coached Wylie in ODP. “Whenever I was around him I felt great about life and forgot any minor disappointments that were on my mind. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.”
“The death of a young person is beyond tragic,” said Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer CEO Chris Branscome. “I know that our entire soccer community is here to support the Wylie family. We should all take time to reflect on Austin’s life and the fragile moments in the lives of all of our children.”
Austin was 17.
Austin's funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 26 at Villanova University's campus chapel
