Eastern Pennsylvania teams picked up 11 more wins on Saturday in USYS Presidents Cup action with several teams moving closer to the knockouts with one preliminary round game remaining.

Nearly half of the Eastern PA teams won their second straight game on Saturday in matches played at The Proving Grounds and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Eight teams have collected all six points in the first two games and five teams remain unbeaten with a win and a draw. The overall record for the two days of competition is 23 wins, 5 losses and 6 draws.

PA Classics continued their dominance with their 17U girls winning 4-1 and their 17U boys winning 3-1 after they posted 5-0 and 7-0 wins to open play on Friday. West Mont United also stayed perfect with their two teams both going 2-0. The 12U girls won 3-0 and the 19U girls broke a 1-1 tie with a game winner in the second half.

Southern Chester County Dragons had a big bounce back game after a 1-0 loss, picking up a 6-1 win over BVB International Academy. Warrington SC followed up a lopsided 7-0 win with another clean sheet and a 1-0 win.

Both Keystone Athletic and Lehigh Valley United followed up scoreless draws with thrilling wins. Keystone Athletic edged FC Frederick 2-1 and Lehigh Valley United overcame an early deficit and beat FC Pittsburgh 4-2.

“When we impose our style of play I think we can control any team in the competition,” said Keystone Athletic head coach Victor Flores. “The problem is after we scored the first goal we sat back and we let them get back into it but in the second half we changed our mentality and we were able to play our style and that was a huge difference for us.”

Captain Madison Merrell scored the first goal for Keystone Athletic on a set piece, something she did in the state Presidents Cup final to lead her team to this competition. Logan Sauer scored the second half winner.

“We just needed constant effort from everyone,” Merrell said of the game. “We knew in the first half we weren’t putting forth the effort that got us here and we needed to push forward and that was our goal in the second half and we were able to execute.”

Central Susquehanna SC and United Philly Soccer both lost by a goal and FC Ballyhoo grabbed an early lead but conceded before halftime and conceded a pair of goals after going down a man in a 3-1 loss to Kearny Thistle United.

All but one of the divisions will wrap up with the third preliminary matches on Sunday. The 18U Girls Division is playing a round robin group of five. Lancaster Elite made it two wins out of two with a 3-1 win and is on six points with two games remaining on Sunday and Tuesday.
