Lancaster Elite, PA Classics and Steel United PA capture USYS Eastern Presidents Cup championships

6N4A4652Three Eastern Pennsylvania teams captured USYS Eastern Presidents Cup titles on Tuesday at The Proving Grounds, culminating an intense five days of games with a trophy.

 

Lancaster Elite Sprinters made it four wins out of four in round robin play with a 4-1 winner over BVB International Academy to capture the 18U Girls title, PA Classics 17U Girls topped Torpedoes SC 2-1 to wrap up a perfect five wins out of five and Steel United PA beat Century 2-0 to win the region.

 

“We worked so hard as a team and we did it together, we did it for each other,” said Autumn Horst. “I can’t wait for nationals.”

 

Eight other Eastern PA teams finished as finalists in the competition. The three champions and four other teams also qualified for the National Presidents Cup, which will be played in the 13U-19U age groups in Wichita, Kansas July 7-11. Both champions and finalists from 13U-18U qualified, but just the champion at the 19U level qualified.

 

Vereinigung Erzgebirge SC Gunners lost 4-2 in Tuesday’s 19U Boys final to Team America from Virginia and West Mont United lost 1-0 in the 19U Girls final on Monday.

 

Tuesday’s heartbreak - Keystone Athletic lost on PKs, FC Ballyhoo lost 1-0 on a late penalty kick - underscored a very successful five days for Eastern PA teams, which went a combined 44-22-8 over the course of the five days.
