Auston Trusty signs with Premier League club Sheffield United

austontrustysheffieldunitedMedia, Pa. native Auston Trusty is moving up to the Premier League this season.

The former Nether United and ODP player - who turned pro as a teenager with the Philadelphia Union - has signed a four-year contract with Sheffield United.

He was transferred from Arsenal FC, which sent him on a successful loan stint to Birmingham City in the English Championship last season after acquiring him from the Colorado Rapids.

"I am more than excited,” Trusty stated in a news release on the club’s website. “The opportunity to be here at this historic club, and an opportunity to play in the Premier League and show my ability, it is everything I could have ever dreamed of growing up as a kid. In Pennsylvania, this was a dream - almost an impossible dream but I believed in myself and the opportunity has come around, it is everything that I dreamed for.”

The 24-year-old was named City’s Player of the Year last season. He made his USMNT debut in March, starting and providing an assist in a 7-1 win over Grenada in Concacaf Nations League play.

"I'm delighted we've managed to get this one over the line, it is one of the positions we've been looking to fill and it is with one our own, a permanent transfer rather than a loan,” Blades chief Paul Heckingbottom stated in the news release. “He is at a good age to progress, he has experience having played at international level and in the Championship last year, where we monitored him and he picked up Birmingham's player of the year award. As a coaching team we feel that he has the athleticism and desire to succeed in the Premier League."

Sheffield United opens their first campaign in the Premier League since 2020-2021 at home against Crystal Palace on August 12. They earned an automatic promotion to the English top flight with a second place finish in the English Championship last season.
