PHILADELPHIA — More than 55,000 fans are expected at Lincoln Financial Field tonight for an international friendly between Mexico and Germany.
The match is the first international game to be staged at the 2026 FIFA World Cup venue since the announcement that the city would be one of 16 World Cup host sites in June 2022.
Lincoln Financial Field hosted three games in July as part of the Premier League Summer Series. The games included Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham vs Brentford and Newcastle vs Aston Villa. Announced attendance for the three matches was 170,488.
Germany is coming off a 3-1 win over the U.S. in Hartford on Saturday. Mexico beat Ghana 2-0 in a friendly at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Saturday.
The game at Lincoln Financial Field, which is slated for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, won’t be the only thing happening in South Philly. The Phillies host the Arizona Diamondbacks for Game 2 of the NLCS and the Philadelphia Flyers play the Vancouver Canucks at the Wells Fargo Center.
