Two former Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic Development Program standouts will be facing each other in the final of the National Women's Soccer League on Saturday.
West Chester, Pa. native and Penn Fusion Academy alumna Phoebe McClernon and OL Reign will play Havertown, Pa. native and FC Delco alumna Sinead Farrelly's NJ/NY Gotham FC in the final being played at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on Saturday night.
Both Eastern PA natives also played at the University of Virginia. Farrelly played for the Cavs from 2007-2010 and McClernon from 2016-2019.
McClernon started at left back for OL Reign in their 1-0 win over semifinal and final hosts San Diego Wave on Sunday.
Farrelly, who played for the Republic of Ireland in last summer's FIFA World Cup, subbed into the match in the 80th minute of Gotham FC's 1-0 win over defending champions Portland Thorns in the other semifinal.
In addition to the Eastern PA ties, the match will be the final games of USMNT legends Megan Rapinoe (OL Reign) and Ali Krieger (Gotham FC).
Saturday's final is at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CBS.
