The U.S. Men’s National Team are headed to the Concacaf Nations League semifinal and have also booked a spot in the 2024 Copa America being hosted in the United States.
The USMNT advanced in both competitions with a 4-2 aggregate win over Trinidad & Tobago in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals. They won 3-0 on three second half goals in the first leg and fell 2-1 in Trinidad & Tobago on Monday after conceding two goals down to 10 men.
Antonee Robinson put the US up in the 25th minute off a cross from Sergiño Dest but Dest was sent off 14 minutes later with two yellow cards. Reon Moore equalized for the hosts in the 43rd minute off an assist from Alvin Jones, who added a goal of his own in the 57th minute.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw for the first 81 minutes of the first leg last Thursday at Q2 Stadium in Austin before an explosion of three goals for the hosts over a seven-minute period. Ricardo Pepi, Robinson and Giovanni Reyna all scored to give the US the decisive lead in the fixture.
The USMNT will play in the Nations League semifinals on March 21 in Arlington, Texas against Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Canada, Honduras or Mexico. The US are the two-time reigning champions of the competition, winning the 2019-20 and 2022-23 editions.
In other action on Monday, the United States U-17 team was knocked out of the U-17 FIFA World Cup with a 3-2 loss to Germany. Philadelphia Union II standout David Vazquez scored an 80th minute equalizer for the U.S. Bilal Yalcinkaya scored an 87th minute winner for the Germans.
