Nether United alum and Media, Pa. native Auston Trusty had a dream debut for the United States Men’s National Team in Grenada on Friday night, earning his first senior cap, first start and first assist in a 7-1 win for the Yanks.
"A special night I will never forget," Trusty wrote on his Twitter account. "Since I was a little kid, I dreamed of playing for my country and representing the USA. Last night that dream finally came true."
Trusty, who is playing in the English Championship with Birmingham City on loan from Arsenal, rejoined former Philadelphia Union teammate Mark McKenzie to anchor the back line for the U.S. in the Concacaf Nations League match.
Fellow Eastern Pennsylvania native Christian Pulisic started along with Trusty’s former Union teammate and fellow YSC Academy graduate Brenden Aaronson.
Downingtown, Pa. native Zack Steffen was on the bench. Pulisic, a Hershey, Pa. native, had a goal and two assists in the game, setting up Aaronson for the second.
Trusty, 24, was a member of Eastern PA and Region 1 ODP and played for Nether United before joining the Philadelphia Union Academy.
He previously played for the U.S. at the U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-23 level and represented the U.S. at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile and the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
The U.S. is in first place with 7 points through three games in the three-team Group D. They host second-place El Salvador (5 points) tonight at Exploria Stadium in Orlando at 7:30 p.m. (TNT/Universo and Streaming on Peacock).
