The U.S. Men's National Team are back in the Concacaf Nations League semifinals after a 1-0 win over El Salvador on Monday night in Orlando, Fla.
Hershey, Pa. native Christian Pulisic captained the side against a disciplined El Salvador team (coached by former USMNT mainstay Hugo Perez) that kept the game scoreless through the first hour.
Ricardo Pepi broke that deadlock seconds after subbing into the game with a 62nd minute goal set up by a through ball from Weston McKennie. The goal was the FC Groningen striker's third in his last two games for the Yanks.
Eastern Pennsylvania natives Zack Steffen and Auston Trusty dressed but not feature in the match along with former Philadelphia Union homegrown Mark McKenzie. Former Union homegrown Brenden Aaronson subbed in for Alex Zendejas in the 60th minute.
The CNL semifinals will be played on Thursday, June 15 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.
Mexico has also advanced to the semifinals but the two remaining spots will be decided tonight in games between Costa Rica and Panama and Canada and Honduras. The group winner with the most points will face the fourth place team with the second and third place teams meeting in the other semifinal.
The U.S. will return to the pitch in three weeks to take on Mexico on April 19 in Glendale, Ariz. in the inaugural Allstate Continental Clásico.
