David C. Edgecombe, age 84, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 in Lancaster, PA.
Dave was one of the longest serving and most respected members of the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Board of Directors. Dave served with distinction as a District commissioner and as State Registrar. He was active in all aspects of the association during a tremendous period of growth in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Dave remained in service to the board through 2013 and as a member of the Arbitration committee through 2017. Dave was awarded Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer’s highest honor, The Service to Youth Award in 1992.
Dave came grew up in Old Saybrook, CT. There he played baseball, basketball, soccer, and was a member of the high school’s championship soccer team. A veteran, he departed on Nov. 22, 1963 to serve in Vietnam. Moving to Leola, PA in 1972, he spent over 40 years with Donnelley's in Lancaster, retiring in 2005 as a Supervisor/Manager.
Dave was a sports fanatic and he served on the Leola Jr. Athletic Board & co-founded the Conestoga Valley Youth Soccer Club. A fan of Conestoga Valley High School soccer, he assisted with the Boys team and helped with organizing the Lady Bucks team. He served on the Board of the Lanco Soccer League beginning in 1984 before joining the board of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer. Her served on both boards simultaneously for many years. Dave also helped create the Red Rose Tournament in 1990, bringing hundreds of teams to the area each year.
In Leola, he served on the Conestoga Valley Community Center Board, and the Water& Sewer Authority. He was a Liederkranz member, watching World Cup soccer. He was a fan of the Philadelphia Union, D.C. United, the Boston Red Sox and Celtics. He enjoyed hiking as a member of the Sierra Club at Lake Tahoe.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Shirley K. Edgecombe of Leola and two sons, Rick Edgecombe and wife Stephanie (Lovegren) Edgecombe of Savannah, GA and Brian Edgecombe and wife Clarice (Chen) Edgecombe of Anaheim, CA. He was Grandfather, Grandpa and Poppa to his four grandchildren: Skyler and Brendan Edgecombe, and Seamus and Quinn Edgecombe.
He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends who he enjoyed and loved so much.
