Free Youth Soccer Day Event at FDR Park
Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer gets geared up for Youth Soccer Day at FDR Park on Saturday, March 26. With spring around the Schuylkill River’s bend, Youth Soccer Day will give families and individuals a chance to come together and enjoy activities at one of Philadelphia’s premier green spaces.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., the day’s festivities will certainly make use of FDR Park’s open greenery and fields.
“Our mission is to grow the game of soccer. One of the primary assets we need to accomplish is to provide safe spaces for children to play. Having designated fields such as in the city’s master plan for FDR Park helps soccer, as well as all of youth sports, grow,” said Chris Branscome, CEO of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer.
As one of the nation’s top 10 largest cities, it’s important for kids to have an outlet and safe space for them to play the sports they love.
“On behalf of our many member soccer clubs and leagues throughout the city, we’re proud to support the project in FDR Park. It’s most certainly needed,” Branscome continued.
In partnership with Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and Friends of FDR Park, the March 26 Youth Soccer Day event will feature fun-filled activities, including:
- Soccer activities for kids
- Kayak tours
- Philadelphia Union meet-and-greet
- Food trucks
- Face painting
- Guest speakers
- And more
Youth Soccer Day will be held on Saturday, March 26, from 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at FDR Park (located at 1500 Pattison Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19145). A guest speaker presentation, including Mayor Jim Kenney, will start at 11:30 a.m. The event is free. Registration is strongly encouraged but not required.
