North Union United Wave Wins US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup

July 17, 2016 – Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer has another US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup champion. North Union United Wave (U14 Girls) defeated Pateadores Irvine White (Cal-South), 2-1 in a dramatic final on Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The two teams met previously in the preliminary rounds with the Californians getting the better of the Wave by the same scoreline.

This time, North Union exacted revenge. The Wave scored the winning goal off a corner kick with less than a minute to play in the game.

The Wave was the lone Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer representative to play at the national tournament. Their run started in March at the state level. They claimed the Eastern Pennsylvania Presidents Cup on May 1 and followed that up with a regional title as well.

The Wave arrived in Tulsa last Thursday. After tying and losing their first two games, they got the result they needed in their third. The Wave beat McAllen United Angels (Tx-South) 4-1 to advance to Sunday's final.

They become the first Eastern Pennsylvania Girls team to win a National Presidents Cup.

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title.  The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.

Past Eastern Pennsylvania champions of the National Presidents Cup include Chesco Premier (U16 Boys, 2008), FC Towamencin (U17 Boys, 2011) and Eagles FC United (U16 Boys, 2011).
