PHL WORLD CUP PRESS RELEASE

Philadelphia 2026 Eastern PA Youth Soccer Tool Kit

Philadelphia is one of 17 U.S. cities bidding to host matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026™, which has been awarded to the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Only 10 U.S. Cities are expected to be selected.

Philadelphia Soccer 2026, the official World Cup bid committee, is chaired by David L. Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation. With representatives from the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau and its PHL Sports division, the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Union, and the regional soccer community, including Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, Philadelphia Soccer 2026 reflects the regional support and enthusiasm for bringing the World Cup to Philadelphia.

PHLWC2026bannerAd_250x250On July 10, Philadelphia Soccer 2026 presented the city’s official bid   to representatives from FIFA and U.S. Soccer, marking a significant   step forward in this exciting process. We are hopeful that we will be   able to welcome delegations from FIFA and U.S. Soccer for site visits in 2020-21 and FIFA hopes to recommend and select the final 10 U.S. cities later in 2021.

Our efforts were bolstered on October 1, when we launched our hype video and announced that sports superstars Carli Lloyd, Julie and Zach Ertz and Alejandro Bedoya had stepped up to help lead this effort as Honorary Co-Chairs of Philadelphia’s bid. But now, we need your help!

We are hopeful that FIFA and U.S. Soccer will be able to visit Philadelphia in 2021. While we know that they will see just how ready we are to host a spectacular event, we also want them to see – without a doubt – that Philadelphia wants the World Cup here in 2026!

What are we asking from the Regional Soccer Community?
We hope you will help us promote this exciting opportunity for the City of Philadelphia and the surrounding communities by utilizing the links, images, and other resources provided in this toolkit. These assets will help amplify Philadelphia’s World Cup Bid Efforts and to encourage fans to “Join Our Team”, by asking the community to add their name on the website, Philadelphia2026.com, to help bring the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Philadelphia!

What are the Action Steps?
We want each partner to use the approved Marketing Assets to keep the momentum and the community engaged in our 2026 World Cup bid efforts

Our goal is to reach 50,000 supporters by the end of 2020 – and 100,000 by the time FIFA and U.S. Soccer “hit the ground” next year. Let’s come together to ensure that when FIFA and U.S. Soccer announce their final list of Host Cities that Philadelphia is on it.

We have the greatest soccer community in the country. Let’s show our pride and our passion to the world!
