The first steps in getting the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Philadelphia have been taken. On Tuesday, U.S. Soccer announced the cities that have officially declared interest in hosting games, should the Americans' joint bid with Mexico and Canada be accepted.

Philadelphia, which would host games at Lincoln Financial Field, was among 34 U.S. cities listed.

Over the last several years, Philadelphia has played host to major international club friendlies, the Gold Cup Finals in 2015 and Copa America Centenario group matches in 2016. But the city has never hosted a World Cup game, having missed out in 1994, the only time the tournament has been held in the Untied States.

The list of cities will be cut down in September before it's finalized for the official bid in January.
