On Friday morning, Philadelphia native Maddy Evans, 26, announced her retirement from professional soccer. Evans has spent the last two seasons with Orlando Pride of the NWSL and will play her last game on Saturday, August 12. 

Last year Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer ran a feature on Evans and then teammate Becky Edwards, a Downingtown native, in Touchline.

Evans, who graduated from Abington High School, scored the winning goal in the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championship when the FC Bucks Vipers, coached by 2016 Service to Youth Award winner Ed Leigh, became the first Eastern Pennsylvania girls team to capture youth soccer's top prize. Evans also took home Golden Boot honors as the age group's top scorer. She later played for 2016 Excellence in Coaching Award winner Erica Walsh at Penn State.
