Referee Courses Now Being Offered

There is a definite shortage of referees throughout the country, Eastern PA is no exception.  There are many advantages for people of all ages to become a referee and help close the gap between the number of officials needed each weekend and the number available.  Even if you were only available for a few hours a month, your contribution could make a huge difference.  Other benefits include an increased knowledge of the game, staying physically fit, and securing a financially rewarding part time advocation where you can make your own schedule and earn on average over $20/hr. 

Courses are offered throughout the state from September 1 through May 31 each year.  Most courses sell out so register early.  Please read the basic guidelines below, or visit the referee committee website at www.EPSARC.org for more information or to view a list of courses available.

• Candidates must be at least 14 years old by the end of the last class - there are no exceptions.
• Referees who have reached their 18th birthday before the first day of class must also pass a background screening.

Grade 8 (referee classification only, not related to school grade)

• Referee Grade 8 is the "traditional" starting point for most referees.
• Most referees in Eastern PA are Grade 8 referees, as this provides the most opportunity.
• This allows you to referee youth games all ages, either as a Center Referee or an Assistant Referee.
• You must complete an 15 hour Entry Level Class
• Online Class covering 6 Laws of the Game; 4 Classroom sessions; 1 Test session
• A student must complete the online sessions prior to the first classroom session, AND attend all 4 classroom sessions, to be allowed to take the exam. 
• THERE ARE NO MAKE UP SESSIONS, nor will the student be allowed to attend another class to make up the missed class.
