The Eastern Pennsylvania Under-17 (2000) Boys ODP team defeated Oregon 7-0 Sunday to win the 2017 US Youth Soccer ODP Championship at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona.
The rout started in the first half. Eastern Pennsylvania ran out to a 4-0 lead and tacked on three more after the break. Nick Brison, of Kennett Square and Southern Chester County Soccer Club, scored a hat trick in the victory. Eastern Pennsylvania also got goals from Darry Longdon, Aaron Tylicki and Matt Pron as well as an Oregon own goal.
Eastern Pennsylvania reached the final by beating Georgia 2-1 on Friday.
"The development and growth of this team has been remarkable," said Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Technical Director Mike Barr, who accompanied the team to Phoenix. "They've continued to represent us well and play at a high level. Much credit should go to their club and high school coaches, too. They should share in the boys' success."
The US Youth Soccer ODP Championships feature the winners of each of the four regions of US Youth Soccer in the Under-16 and Under-17 age groups for both boys and girls. Eastern Pennsylvania clinched a spot in Phoenix last summer by winning the US Youth Soccer Region I Championship.
The U17 Boys' triumph is Eastern Pennsylvania's first title in the ODP Championships since 2007, when the 1989 Girls took home the national championship. Eastern Pennsylvania was coached by Tom Dodds, Simon Robinson, Gary Stephenson and Barr.
