Philadelphia Union’s Jim Curtin wins the 2020 Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year

It has been a year Philadelphia Union fans will never forget. They have been without a doubt one of or if not the best team in the MLS this year. From making it to the semifinals of the MLS is Back Tournament this summer to winning the 2020 Supporter’s Shield and earning the number one seed in the Audi MLS Cup playoffs, they were led by head coach Jim Curtin.

It has been a dream come true for the kid from Oreland, Pa. Curtin has been with the Union since 2010 where he started working with the academy teams. In just two years he was promoted to the senior team where he was an assistant coach. Curtin was then hired to lead the team as Head Coach in 2014 and the rest is history.

During this 2020 season, the Union wanted to prove that they were the real deal and they did just that. In 23 games this year, they went 14-5-4 and undefeated at home to become the first team in the MLS to do so. They led the league in goal differential and only allowed four goals at home. It was the best regular season in Philadelphia Union’s history!

Congratulations on this amazing accolade, we are looking forward to seeing Jim Curtin, Coach of the Year, lead the Union on a fierce journey through the playoffs! Be sure to tune into their first-round match on Tuesday, November 24.
